Members have been invited to attend an EGM at 1pm 31 May to discuss the latest developments in the dispute.

This is a crucial moment in the dispute - the marking boycott has forced the University to start to address our demands, and we need all members to be present to decide as a branch what we want to do next.

Update (as of 11.30am Tuesday 31 May!)

Negotiators met with UEG yesterday to discuss our demands on Four Fights. We were expecting an offer yesterday evening, but at the time of writing we are still waiting.

Negotiators are meeting with the VC today at 4pm to discuss version 3 of the statement on USS. We have been asked not to share this in its draft stages - but we hope to have a version to share with members tomorrow.

Update on USS funding

USS announced the results of their deep-dive yesterday.

The deficit, even by their own excessively pessimistic valuation, is now negligible. You can read Josephine Cumbo, FT correspondent’s, update here

The two blogs by Mike Otsuka explaining why a recovery plan is now necessary to restore benefits, following the post-valuation experience.

Proposal on process to end Marking and Assessment Boycott - to be discussed at today’s meeting

We are proposing that once we get the Four Fights offer AND the offer of the USS statement we email these to all UCU Sussex members.

Once we have confirmation via the UCU regional official on whether UCU HEC will accept our request to end the marking and assessment boycott, we will email a voting option on whether to accept the offers or ask for further negotiations.

We will discuss this process at the meeting today, and then if UEG make a serious offer we aim to be able to do this over the holiday long weekend.

Hope to see you all at 1pm!

In solidarity,

Your Exec and Reps
